7 Reasons Why the 9-5 Grind is Long Outdated

Do you feel that your job is wasting time because you’re looking for something more serious in life? You are not alone and I’m here to tell you that YES the 9-5 grind is long outdated.

balancing-time-and-earning-money

I have 7 reasons why the 40-hour work week is a total waste of time, and that you should pursue your dreams before it’s too late.

Lets do it!

1. There are More Opportunities than Ever Before

With the internet literally at our fingertips, there’s only one thing stopping us from pursuing a new opportunity, and that is our lack of imagination.

We are in the digital age my friend, meaning the internet opens up an ENTIRELY different world to what we see through our eyes.

You do not need to be tied down to a 9-5 job anymore due to the vast amounts of opportunities we can find through the internet.

And that brings me to my next point…working from home.

2. More and More People are Working From Home Full-Time

Because the internet opens up endless possibilities, there is actually more people kicking their regular 9-5 job to the curb and working from home instead.

You can vlog for a living, make YouTube videos, create a blog, work for Fiverr or even follow an unusual route via something called “Blackhat”.

However–without getting too technical–there are thousands of ways to earn money on the internet and a lot of them can’t even get oversaturated, so there’s room for anyone that’s willing to put in the work.

3. Regular Jobs Kill Dreams

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably realized that a regular job is slowly killing your dreams.

There’s no time to do anything simply because you have to work all the damn time.

In the weekend you are trying to relax from the nightmare you do during the week.

If you want to travel for a living, a job can’t offer that.

If you want to become a millionaire as quickly as possible, a normal job can’t offer that. You actually have to create multiple streams of income instead.

Bottom line: 9-5 jobs are a real burden on you and how you really want to live your life. Don’t allow it to any longer or your dreams will NEVER become a reality!

4. You Can’t Fully Experience This Thing Called “Life”

dream

Like I said, you have to do something you probably don’t even like doing for 8-12 hours per day just to get by.

You miss out on “life” simply because you are exchanging literally time you cannot get back for money that goes almost instantly.

Why this is normal still blows my mind, however, my point is that a job is designed for you to live your life, not the other way around.

People still haven’t realized that, and it leads to most of the population thinking that living to work is normal when clearly it is wrong on so many levels.

5. Not Many People Enjoy Their Job Anyway

Countless polls and surveys have PROVEN that 70% of people hate their job.

Stats don’t lie, and it’s exactly what lead me toย creating my own little social experiment.

Go here to view the stats

This is why jobs are long outdated my friend.

No one even enjoys what they do on a daily basis just to put food on the table.

It’s ridiculous if you ask me. Thankfully there are endless opportunities that allow ANYONE to axe their day job if they wish to…if they’re willing to put in the work of course.

Wealthy Affiliate is my #1 recommendation

6. Humans Aren’t Designed to Work 8+ Hours a Day

This is actually a true fact.

We are programmed to hunt for our food and enjoy life the rest of the time with the most basic neccessities, rather than work 40 hours per week acting like a robot 90% of the time!

Evolution has made the world what it is today.

It is not changing anytime soon but what IS changing is how many workers that are getting replaced with AI.

This is why I highly recommend an alternate means of making a living.

We simply cannot rely on a job anymore. We can get made redundant in an instant and employers don’t even care!

They care more about how much more money they can make!

7. Everyone Acts Like They’re In a Prison 5 Days a Week

Just look around you. Everyone seems to hate life 5 days a week until they knock off on Friday.

THAT’S when they come alive and begin living as much as they can for the 2 days they have off work.

This is a disgrace and it annoys me so much because it’s only getting worse!

We aren’t in the age of A.I just yet, but it definitely IS getting started.

Soon we won’t even know the difference between AI and real people.

If that doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what will.

Only YOU Can Do Something About Your Life

I’m 25 at the time of writing this article, and it took me many years before realizing that no one was going to hand me anything in life.

You either have to live by societies status quo for the rest of your life or break the rules and follow your dreams before it’s too late.

The 9-5 grind is outdated and the internet allows us to do whatever we want in this world.

We do not need to work for anyone else anymore, neither do we need a brick and mortar business to create immense wealth.

Remember how I said we can work for ourselves?

Well I create blogs just like this for a living and I don’t have to answer to ANYONE!

I can skip days and even weeks if I want to.

You work on your own schedule and nobody else’s.

You are just seconds away from getting started yourself, so go here and see my proposal (heck, it has a free trial so at least give that a go!).

Have anything to add? Feel free to put your say in the comments below! I’ll get back to you ASAP ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Hi there. I could not agree with you more. The 9 to 5 is way outdated and really not worth the time and effort for what u get in return. You have raised some good points here and working for yourself if that is possible for you, is much better than the 9 to 5. One thing though is that sometimes working for yourself and running your own business can take more hours at the beginning but once you have set a foundation, then things become easier and you will have much more time to spend with your loved ones and do the things that are important in life and not what someone else deems as important, (like a boss).

    1. Definitely, 100% Carl. The time and effort isn’t even worth the income you get! I mean, time is precious and non-refundable. The money is low and allows you to get by and that’s it.

And yes, working for yourself takes time at the beginning but eventually it ends up being passive income. You work even less but get paid more! It’s a snowball effect.

  2. I have been following the 9 to 5 for many years and it has got me nowhere. I am no richer than when i started work when i was 16. Working for a boss for 40 hours a week is really out of the ark and i have learnt through experience that the only person who can help you is yourself. there are better solutions out there and affiliate marketing can help you get a better financial position.

    1. The sad truth is that a 9-5 will allow you to get by with the basics and that is it. If you want to get more you have to go above and beyond what everybody else is doing.

Affiliate marketing mixed with blogging really is the way to go these days. Cheers for the comment ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. I was in a similar boat to you. I dropped out of high school at 16, worked for a total of 6.5 years, had nothing to show for it other than complete wasted years.

You are absolutely correct that there are great opportunities for us to pursue. I will and always will recommend Wealthy Affiliate for the simple reason that anyone can start and be successful as long as they show up and put in the work on a consistent basis.

  3. I totally agree that regular jobs kill dreams. While I was working, days were passing and I never thought of actually doing something.
This is the reason why many people start working online and start trying to live their dreams with online work.

    1. I absolutely hate societies status quo, because people know its the norm and they think if you step out of this “normalcy” you are breaking the rules or living something out of a fantasy world.

The surprising part is that you actually ARE.

Breaking the rules is how dreams are made, not by doing what everybody else is doing!

  4. I am working a 9-5 job (well actually 8-4) for more than 10 years now and it feels exactly as you describe it in your article. It’s in our power to change this but nothing will come suddenly from the sky. We have to fight for it.

WA is really a place to start. I gave it a chance and it can change your life if you work hard and show dedication. I agree that since you can try it for free there is no reason for people not to give it a chance.

    1. You’re preaching, my friend.

Only the ones putting in the work that are reaping the rewards. There is no shortcuts but there is definitely many different ways for it to work. Thanks for the comment, and yes WA is the best place to start ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I think that the 9 to 5 jobs limit your lifestyle. You cannot enjoy life at all. For people who love travelling like I do, you always have to worry about the time to return to your job. If you work online, I don’t think that can be an issue anymore. More reasons why people should adopt working online

    1. You’re speaking the truth brother. I live for this stuff, so believe me when I say you don’t HAVE to work a 9-5 job if you don’t want to.

It is your life and your choice. Nobody can tell you what to do because nobody actually “owns” you.

  6. The 9 to 5 is over-rated, It is time to jump on the home business bandwagon. I agree with your list and I especially like #4. Too many people work 40+ hour jobs and don’t get to enjoy life. They either are too miserable at work or too tired afterward. Making someone else reach is a stressful job so why not work for yourself on your own time. I think a lot more people need to read this.

    1. #4 is the reason I went searching for better alternatives.

I was always miserable at my job and had absolutely NOTHING to show for it. I hadn’t traveled once in 6.5 years and wasn’t going to let it stop me any longer.

I’m super glad I came across Wealthy Affiliate because I’d probably still be struggling through the same old rat race to this day.

  7. I so agree, I hate how jobs work in modern society. I’ve never had an actual 9 to 5 job, although I have worked in retail and food service for many years, so I know the feeling. Regular jobs do kill dreams, or at least slow down the process. When I’m at work I’m always thinking that I could be working on something bringing me closer to my dream.

    Great post!

    1. Glad you’ve “woken up” to this type of living. Only we as individuals can change how we live our lives and nobody else.

      Good luck!

  8. Hi Brandon,

Your article makes perfect sense. I couldn’t agree with you more. People have been programmed to work a 9-5 job like robots that they don’t know any better. Articles like yours help to deprogram this 9-5 work behavior so that they can start their businesses.

What other legit opportunities besides Wealthy Affiliate offer people the chance to accomplish & live their own dreams?

Awesome article & keep publishing more articles like this to spread the message.

    1. Well I’m happy that an article as simple as this is so powerful. All it takes is that “sign” to tell you that you are not on the right track and something should be changed.

I’m here to tell you that this is indeed a sign and that you should pursue your dreams while you still can ๐Ÿ™‚

      All the best,
      Brandon

  9. I always like to stay up with the latest trends, and hate feeling behind the times. I knew there was something not right about being in a 9-5 job! I’m quitting!
Jokes aside, thanks for such a straightforward view of alternatives to the 9-5 grind without pushing something onto me. Very refreshing and an enjoyable read!

    1. Getting out of the rat race is not for everyone, as most people are actually set in stone and don’t even care their life is being wasted.

However, I’m more interested in helping those that wish to break out of societies rules and actually do what makes them happy. Glad you found this helpful.

  10. Thanks for this Brandon. I’m halfway there actually. I cut down my 5 days of 9 to 5pm to 3 days only. I’m slowly getting freed from it. I think part of me is a little scared of jumping out of it all together and prefer to do it step by step before I’m 100% out.

It’s my dream that I finally get there. I can’t wait!

    1. Wow, I am SO happy for you. You are on the way to living out your dreams and that is wonderful.

Just saying: sometimes the almighty jump is needed to finally break free.

However, whatever you do I wish you all the best.

  11. Hi I’m currently working 9-5 job because its my source of income at the moment. I strongly believe that its a lot of time wasted building others dreams while watch your dream grow dust. All that time invested while i could be home doing my own business and have more time to spend with the family. It takes time to grow online business so i’m just waiting for moment. I do believe the 9 to 5 is death sentence it does feel like a prison giving dictation on how to do your job and how to live. The 9 to 5 turns me into a zombie and makes me unhappy i’m always too busy to live my dreams and that’s very sad. Technology had advanced giving people the chance to create their own opportunities.

    1. You’re so right that the 9 to 5 grind is a death sentence, more so for people that hate it to no end and want a way out.

Thanks to the age we are in, we can now pursue other ventures and make a living through the internet.

Gone are the days of having to work until your retirement before earning a boatload of money. I wish you all the best, friend.

  12. I totally agree that the 9 to 5 grind is definitely a waste of time. With so many things that we should experience in life it is important that we make the most of the time that we have and earn money through ways that still allows us to live life!

    1. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I have too much to live for.

I have dreams I haven’t even reached yet, goals still in progress, places to visit and people to see! I can’t be working 8-10 hours per day if I want to do all these things!

It’s time for people to get real with the world. It’s time to make a stand against the dream-killer 9-5 race.

Join me while you still have a chance…
