8 Ugly Truths About Wealthy Affiliate No One Is Telling You

So for those of you who know me, you know I am a member of Wealthy affiliate, have been for 2 and a half years now and have no trouble recommending it.

However, there are certain things you won’t hear much people talking about when it comes to this system.

When you search up “Wealthy Affiliate review” on Google you get nothing but people saying nice things about it.

I mean, there must be at least SOMETHING that people don’t like about it, surely?

Well yes there are, and that’s what I want to talk about today, the 8 ugly truths.

Lets expose them!

1. It can take months before you earn your first commission

When you first enter, you’ll feel overwhelmed by everything then you’ll be so excited to start this new venture.

However, that excitement soon dies down when you don’t see results.

You see, the training they teach is not for everyone.

Sure, you can make money, you can make a LOT of money actually.

But if you’re impatient and want instant results, you will fail hands down.

It takes months before you earn your first commission and almost a year to make consistent sales on a daily basis.

2. It is an ongoing monthly payment and not one-time

If you’re not putting in the work, monthly payments will add up very quickly and you probably won’t even make money while you’re handing over your money.

Well you won’t be actually, not for the first 2 months at least.

Like I said, it takes months before you start earning commissions, so before this happens you are investing your time and money to gain profits in the future.

This is why it’s so important to continue working on your business almost every single day if you can.

You’ll start making money sooner and eventually start profiting!

3. You’ll receive lots of emails from the owners

The reason why Wealthy Affiliate converts so well and makes its affiliates lots of money is because they send out emails to new members all the time.

But if you’re on the other end and definitely don’t want to join, you’ll continue being bombarded with these emails to come back and start your training.

4. The free domain name will likely NOT rank in Google

Although the free domain name (of your choice) is good to get your foot in the online marketing space, it will probably not rank in Google for many reasons, but I’ll mention the main reason below.

Sub-domains hardly ever rank in Google, and if they do, it’s because there’s no competition for that keyword.

This means Wealthy Affiliate will try to push you to upgrade your membership which is $49 USD per month.

If you do decide to upgrade, at least by then you will have a good foundation and enough content to rank in Google!

5. It’s VERY easy to get distracted

So many newbies will join and get distracted by all the side training courses created by the community (literally anyone can create these courses) and the many available webinars.

Not to mention that people will try to rank their own Wealthy Affiliate profile when this has nothing to do with their online business.

This only gets them higher rankings on the WA website itself, which is not that special in my opinion because it doesn’t make you money.

Although watching webinars and going through the side training courses is great to learn to new things, it stops you from the main target and that is working on your own website.

I’ve seen so many newbies get distracted and think they’re making big moves by increasing their Wealthy Affiliate ranking, but they don’t work on their own business whatsoever and they don’t make any money.

6. It’s so easy to fall for the “make money online” niche

Finding a niche is a difficult task for at least 70% of newbies, so they’ll probably skip the main training and go through the bootcamp training.

This training consists of promoting Wealthy Affiliate itself.

The commissions are very appealing even to advanced internet marketers.

Although Kyle (co-owner) shows you that there are literally thousands of niches to get into and promote this product, still most newbies – god knows why – end up in the “make money online” niche.

Or even the “work from home” niche, which are all competitive enough as it is.

You can definitely still rank your website and make money, it’ll just take a little longer than if you went with another niche.

For example, other niches to promote WA can be:

  • Extra income for teachers
  • Extra income for stay at home moms
  • Low salary employees
  • Residual income seekers
  • Office workers
  • Summer job seekers
  • Etc

As you can see, there are thousands upon thousands of niches to get into, you just have to use your imagination.

Get into a niche more targeted and you’ll find success much quicker than jumping into the overused “make money online” niche.

7. You’ll be seen as “just another person promoting Wealthy Affiliate”

Wealthy Affiliate is not new and has been around for a long time now (14 years) and have built up a solid reputation.

This means haters of the WA system think you are just bashing on another system without even trying it, only to promote “your #1 recommendation” even though you’ve had no success with it yet.

However, this is why you should keep everything unbiased, based off of facts and your own opinion.

Don’t falsify anything because you will not be seen as an authority figure and most people will just hate you.

Therefore your site won’t rank as good and you won’t make as much money.

So if you do decide to promote Wealthy Affiliate, be ready for some backlash from the haters.

Although there aren’t a lot of them, they are still out there so expect some bad comments on your website every once in a while.

However, you don’t have to accept these comments if you don’t want to, it is your own business at the end of the day 🙂

8. The majority of your articles will fall flat on their face

Kyle claims most of your articles will end up on the front page of Google, but with my personal experience, this is not 100% correct.

In fact, I have a website (campingmastery.com) with over 300 articles and only around 30% of the articles are doing well, sitting at the front page of Google, receiving traffic as we speak and making me money.

So keep in mind that while you’re writing articles, that specific article might not even rank.

That is why the more articles you write, the better the chances for your content to rank.

You will have to write, write and write some more.

The trick is to balance quality with quantity and not focus too much on quality when it might not even rank at all.

This is exactly why patience, consistency, persistence and motivation are all a must!

The Truth About Wealthy Affiliate

Wealthy Affiliate definitely has its pros and cons, as with all good things.

There are so many positive reviews for this system it’s not funny, which is why I decided to tell you the ugly truths that no one else is telling you.

Don’t get me wrong, Wealthy Affiliate is still simply amazing.

It actually allowed me to quit job and work from home full-time, and if you don’t believe me you can read my full story here.

Just because there is so much good feedback for this system, don’t think everyone is making a lot of money and that it is the easiest thing on earth, because it definitely is not and it takes a lot of time and effort to see fruitful results.

Well that concludes this article.

  1. Hi Brandon, What a refreshing take on WA! I am a member also, have been for more than 5 years. I love the supporting community, but I believe it’s important that newbies realise that nothing comes easy – this is the best place to learn how to earn money, but it still takes a lot of work. Thanks for taking the time to put things in perspective

    • Yes, definitely. It is the best place to learn how to start an online business and grow it, but it’s not going to be as easy as it sounds. The ones that became successful did it with hard work and dedication, it was no accident.

  2. Thanks for not painting the wealthy affiliate as a bed of roses like the way my referral did until I got there and saw you must really put in hard work and persistence to make a headway in this internet marketing world. It’s not as easy as it seems to make a living online but with strong focus and persistence financial freedom is achievable.

    • The reason your referral painted it as a bed of roses because it definitely is compared to the many online scams out there.

But there are definitely pros and cons to it, and these are what I have discovered after been in this business for 2 years.

  3. As a newbie to WA this is very helpful. What you said here are all true. I am experiencing those as a new member but it only reminds me to keep my focus and be more persistent and consistent . I have a long road ahead of me on this journey. Thank you for sharing truths such as this. You’re right I haven’t really found any negative reviews about WA, nothing bad enough to make me run away from it.

    • The ones talking negative about it have never actually ventured into it, tried and stuck it out.

They would’ve signed up for the free trial, looked around, went through a couple of training videos and thought “nah I’m not doing all of this”.

On to the next shiny object they go. Those kinds of people will never make it, they just quit too easily.
