Can You Make A Full-Time Income Completing Surveys?

No doubt you’ve tried the whole internet marketing game before.

Joining whatever income opportunity you find just to see if you can make real money from it.

Well there’s a good chance you’ve stumbled across a number of survey sites before and tried your luck.

Most of them have probably paid you because most of them are actually legit, however, the question is: can you make enough money to quit your day job?

Even though you can make real money from survey sites, what are the chances you can actually do it for a living – quitting your job and working from home full-time?

Let me dive deep into this subject so you can see if filling out surveys is going to make you a boatload of money.

Lets Break It All Down With Simple Math

The Average Cost of a Survey

I’ve researched the many survey sites on the internet and most of them pay you pennies for a few minutes of work.

A 15 minute survey for example, might earn you $0.25.

A 45 minute survey might earn you $1.50.

These are all estimates and not exact figures, but as you can see, you do NOT gain a lot from completing surveys.

Just take a look at the 45 minute survey. That time doesn’t include distractions and things of that nature.

You might end up spending an hour of your time to earn $1.50.

I mean, I do not need to tell you how much of a waste of time that is.

Even working at Burger King for an hour earns you about $8 depending on where you’re from.

Some surveys will pay you $5 up to $75, however, not everyone qualifies for these because they have strict rules so your chance of landing a high paying survey is very slim.

How Many Surveys Can You Complete Per Day?

Your time during the day is limited, and filling out surveys requires a lot of time and patience.

Distractions from the kids, eating foot, toilet breaks, etc, all of this creates downtime and slows the money making process down.

To be able to complete more surveys simultaneously you will need to join many different survey sites so you have a lot available to do at one time.

Because as you may or may not know, most survey sites run out of surveys really quickly. They renew after a day or two and when they do renew you might only have 1 available to you!

By signing up to different sites you will eliminate downtime and have many available to fill out.

Only then will you be extreeeemely lucky to make a decent amount of income doing surveys.

What Can You Earn Per Month?

Lets create an average here just to make things easier to understand.

Lets say you you fill out a whole lot of surveys that pay anywhere from $0.30 up to $2.

And lets just say (hypothetically speaking) that you’re earning $2 an hour, although that’s being nice.

$2 an hour for 10 hours work per day is $20 for the day. Again, I’m being very generous here because it might not even be anywhere close to that!

This will happen only if those surveys are actually available at that point in time.

Which brings me to my next point…your living costs.

Your Living Costs

If you are earning $20 per day completing surveys, that is $600 per month!

That’s if you’re working for 10 hours per day and making an average of $2 per hour.

$2 per hour?!? The minimum wage in the US at the time of writing this article is $7.25, and even minimum wage workers struggle to make ends meet.

Here’s what you need to do:

You need to figure out how much your living costs are, which I can almost guarantee are much more than $600 per month, then make your decisions accordingly.

If it is $600 or less, you might have a chance at the online survey game, although personally I don’t think it’s sustainable whatsoever.

You’ll get burnt out pretty quickly and you’ll give up before you even get started since there is a lot of time involved and f*ck all earnings!

And if your living costs are over $600, keep looking for better solutions because you won’t stand a chance at doing it full-time.

Most People Quit

Every person I know who has tried paid online surveys has quit, and for the exact same reasons.

You just don’t make enough money for the time spent.

You slave away filling out surveys for 30-60 minutes while making pennies.

You start to wonder if it’s even worth your time, and not long after that you stop altogether, off to the next shiny object you go.

I’m here to tell you that you are definitely wasting your time filling out surveys and you should stop joining these types of sites asap.

I get it, you just want a way to make money online so you can quit your day job.

Well as you can see, it is not going to happen by completing surveys all day every day.

These survey sites are designed to pay you pennies while you give away valuable information, and that’s all there is to it.

You will not make the boatload of money you seek my friend, however, that’s not to say it isn’t possible because it is, 100%

The real way to make a consistent flow of income is to create your own website.

It isn’t the only way BUT it is one that works, one that anyone can get started with right away.

  1. I agree, I believe that completing surveys doesn’t yield anything. I don’t know for sure because I never actually went through with completing one. I think you would have to gullible to believe you could earn any real money from completing surveys, from what you stated the pay is a joke and it consumes so much time. Have you actually went through the process of trying to complete surveys to make a living?

BTW I love your website and the article, It was great to confirm my suspicion about the survey industry.

    • Well Stan, you can definitely earn real money completing surveys but the fact of the matter is, you will not earn tremendous amounts of money.

And nope I have not tried doing surveys for a living because it’s just not possible and any experienced online marketer knows this.

  2. Well, obviously I agree. There’s nothing more frustrating than doing something for hours but you didn’t get the same rewards as your effort.

Overall I like your post. It’s easy to understand and it feels like I’m hearing you talking to me directly.

    Anyway, good job!
    Thumbs up!

  3. Hi Brandon,

I also know a few different people who have tried to complete surveys as a way to make money full time from home. They seemed to draw the conclusion in the end that it’s not a viable full time profession.

Thanks for highlighting how it isn’t a feasible full time job, this article does an excellent job of highlighting why you should consider other home based opportunities.

    • I’m happy to bring this subject to light before people start quitting their jobs thinking they’ll make lots of money doing simple surveys.

  4. Hi Brandon, thanks for the awesome write up relating to the amount of money we could actually make by doing surveys on the internet.

I do agree with you that creating personal websites / blog is a more viable way towards creating a sustainable income on the internet.

That’s why I’ve picked blogging and affiliate marketing as my main way to monetize my blog 🙂

    • That’s the perfect setup right there Chris. I have multiple blogs on the internet making me money as we speak.

That is the true power of ranking blogs that’s monetized with affiliate marketing and you will soon realize this as soon as yours takes off.
