I get this question everyday. Can you really make good money with affiliate marketing? And the answer is always a resounding yes!
I have done affiliate marketing since 2016 and let me tell you, it is still alive and kicking.
The only thing that will stop you from succeeding is to not try anything or become frozen due to fear or failure.
Affiliate marketing in my opinion, is hands down the easiest way to make money online.
You just need to look at the concept and realize how great it is.
Sell someone else’s product and earn commissions!
No inventory to deal with, no customer service, no shipping, no refunds. Just send people to your link and make money, huh?
I’m going to show you exactly how much money can be made, how it’s made possible and ways to earn money using the power of affiliate marketing.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is the act of selling someone else’s product and earning commissions.
You get your own special link to add to your website or social media, and when your audience clicks and buys something, you make money.
Fortunately there are thousands upon thousands of affiliate products to choose from, but the downside is that you need targeted traffic.
I mean, you’re not going to buy a perfume when you landed on a website about motorcycles are you? Chances are you will not.
But land on a motorcycle website and see motorcycle gear you like, then you’re more likely to buy it.
And here’s how to get super targeted for even more sales. Sell motorcycle helmets on a website all about motorcycle helmets!
It’s not about promoting anything and everything, you need the right product for the right audience
How Much Money Can You Make With Affiliate Marketing?
Well my friend, you wouldn’t believe me even if I told you but I’m going to tell you anyway :p
I’ve been in the affiliate marketing game for 3.5 years and I know for a fact that you can make good money, more money than your typical 9-5 job actually.
Here’s the type of affiliates you will come across and how much money they’re earning.
Experience: Less than a year
Average income: Under $1,000 per month
Experience: 1-3 years
Average income: $1,000-$3,000
Experience: 3-7 years
Average income: $3,000-$10,000
Experience: 7+ years
Average income: $10,000-$50000+
As you can see, the longer you stick it out for, the more money you make and that’s why those who are quick to give up don’t make anything.
They quit before their breakthrough.
I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for 3.5 years and I am currently in the 4 figure mark.
I have noticed that the longer you stick it out for and the more you build your business, the more money you make.
Now I know you probably don’t believe me that affiliate marketing can earn you 5 figures per month, but it is 100% possible.
Of course those numbers aren’t easy to reach but eventually when you keep going long enough, you can make bank just like some super affiliates have.
Why I Got into Affiliate Marketing In the First Place
The thought of working my own hours, waking up any time of the day and going to bed as late as I wanted to was what got me into internet marketing in the first place.
I have always hated working for somebody else and always loved freedom.
The weekends were my absolute favorite because I was free.
I also love independence, so not having to rely on a boss to pay me a monthly wage was one of the ultimate goals.
I thriiiiiived for Independence and until this day I am grateful that we have the internet and the power of affiliate marketing to allow me to live my dream lifestyle.
How Fast Do You Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?
This is actually the wrong mindset and it’s what gets most people caught up in the whole “make money online as fast as possible” thing.
And of course that never happens because get-rich-quick schemes do not exist and never will.
Well they do exist, but definitely don’t work.
The only way to make fast money on the internet is to have EXPERIENCE.
You cannot dive in with a step-by-step guide and expect to bank overnight, even though 90% of systems claim that it will do it for you.
The answer to this question is:
It all depends on your strategy.
If you’ve already got a good following such as a Facebook, Instagram or YouTube, you might be able to monetize that traffic with affiliate marketing offers and make money within the next few days or weeks.
On the other hand:
If you don’t have any following or website, then starting from scratch is going to take at least a couple of months before you see any income.
How to Speed Up the Process
1. You own a blog that’s receiving traffic
Maybe you created a blog months ago or even years ago just for fun, put some content on it and now it’s somehow receiving traffic.
Or maybe you decided you wanted to make money online so you started a blog and it’s receiving a few hundred visitors a day.
Either way, you can monetize this traffic as long as they are targeted.
Find out WHY those people are visiting your blog. It might be a solution to a problem.
Then find an affiliate product that solves that problem. Put up some banners and link to it throughout your content.
Otherwise you can review the product and link to your review (recommended).
Reviews are more likely to be read, they create more conversions and you’ll look less of a spammer.
2. You have a large social media following
What do your followers follow you for?
Is it your personality? Is it your brand? Is it the funny things you share?
There’s a reason people follow you and you can use it to your advantage.
If you’re page is about basketball, you could sell them basketball products or an e-book on how to become a better basketball player.
A large social media following means you have influence and you don’t even know it.
You are already leaps and bounds ahead of people who are starting from scratch because frankly, getting traffic is the most difficult part.
When you combine the right traffic with the right product, gobs of money can be made my friend.
3. You pay for traffic
Paying for traffic doesn’t automatically make you a winner, it is a lot more complex than that.
You could spend hundreds of dollars and not earn a dime, or even thousands of dollars and only make $100 back.
The key is to do some A/B testing until you find a product and traffic source that makes you profit.
Until then you will constantly lose money.
Buying traffic in any niche is a risky business and not what I recommend if you’re just starting out.
Do I Recommend Affiliate Marketing?
I do believe that affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make money online.
I 100% recommend affiliate marketing for the simple reason that you do not need to mess with having your own inventory, refunds and customer service.
Just focus on the more important stuff, like getting traffic and maximizing conversions 🙂
Getting targeted traffic is actually the hardest part.
So when you can can master getting thousands of free visitors to your website or offer a day, you can make a LOT of money with affiliate marketing.
You Need the Right Training
Getting a blog on the world wide web for people to see isn’t going to make you bank if that’s what you think.
In fact you need proper training, the type of training that takes you by the hand and walks you through every…single…step.
You need to know keyword research so you know what articles will rank, a blogging platform, step-by-step training and and something that’s free to join.
Well that’s what you get at Wealthy Affiliate 🙂
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the Best Affiliate Program for Newbies?
In my humble opinion, the best affiliate program for newbies is the Amazon associates program.
It is just trusted by literally everyone, it is that easy to make sales.
Plus Amazon associates blogs are worth a fortune. If you can get your blog earning $1000 a month you could EASILY get $30,000 for it.
My very first blog I monetized with Amazons affiliate program and that blog is still up to this day.
It is called campingmastery.com. Within 1.5 years I was making $1,000 per month.
However, keep in mind that I was blogging HARD, posting everyday, sometimes even 2 articles in a day.
Even though commissions are low with Amazon, the 24-hour cookies make up for it.
This means when someone clicks your link, you make commissions off of every item purchased within the next 24 hours, even on items you weren’t promoting!
Can You Make Money Without a Website/Blog?
Sure you can make money without a website or blog.
But that means you’re going to need another source of traffic, because without traffic, you will not make money.
If you don’t want to do affiliate marketing with a blog, you’re going to need a large following of some sort.
This can be with social media, an email list or even a YouTube channel.
Those are some free traffic sources, but you can also buy traffic which is another viable strategy.
However, that also comes with a set of challenges that can lose you a lot of money.
If you do go this route, make sure you have at least a couple hundred dollars that you don’t mind losing, as your first few campaigns might not profit.
What Affiliate Program Earns the Most?
All affiliate programs are different so there is no right or wrong answer for this.
There are people making $5,000 with Clickbank and others making $50,000 with Amazon.
On the other hand, there are people making as little as $300 per month with Amazon and others making $30,000 with Clickbank.
The key takeaway?
All affiliate programs have the potential to earn 5 figures if you match the right product with the right audience.
Although I still recommend Amazon for newbies because selling digital products is difficult and takes longer to make money.
Is Affiliate Marketing a Scam?
Of course affiliate marketing is not a scam.
Affiliate marketing is a real business and as I mentioned in this article, thousands of dollars can be made per month with the right training and lots of hard work.
The reason people think it’s a scam is because there’s thousands of online gurus selling products they claim that will make them rich with affiliate marketing.
But the training is sub-par and doesn’t work or the training is decent but they don’t put in the action long enough to see results.
So they just automatically think affiliate marketing is a scam.
Well I’m here to tell you that affiliate marketing is a real business model and you can make a lot of money when done right.
Can Affiliate Marketing Make You Rich?
As I mentioned already in this article, affiliate marketing has the power to make you an absolute killing.
So yes, it can make you rich but at the end of the day it all comes down to work ethic and how willing you are to serve your audience with great content.
Keep that in the back of your mind…getting rich should NOT be your #1 priority.
Making lots of great content for your audience should be your priority, because making lots of money is a byproduct of that.
So yes, affiliate marketing can make you rich and help you live a pretty damn good lifestyle but you have to put in the work and treat your blog like a real business, and it will reward you greatly 🙂
How Long Does it Take to Make Your First $1?
It depends on what route you take and your strategy.
If you purchase traffic and send it to an affiliate offer, you could make money as quickly as today.
But will you profit? Probably not.
Not until you find a winning product without losing hundreds, possibly even thousands of dollars first.
However, if you go with free methods only, your first dollar can take much longer.
Your first dollar is always the hardest.
All you’ll be doing for the first few weeks and possibly months is creating great content.
You might get lucky and make your first $1 in a couple weeks, or it might even take a couple of months instead.
The only thing you can focus on is creating great content because that’s what’s going to bring people to your website.
However, once you get your first dollar, it’s smooth sailing from there and you’ll make money faster as long as you keep working on it and making more articles.
Get Out There and Make It Happen
You could read all the articles in the world about affiliate marketing and still not make a dime.
Knowledge is nothing without action.
The only real way to start making money is to put in the WORK.
That means constantly working on your blog at least 1 hour a day. Treat it like a real business and making money is inevitable.
Going all in really is the best way to go, because if you’re only half in you’re only going to get half results.
Now you know what you have to do, the fate of your future is in your hands. All I can do is send you in the right direction.
Well good luck and I hope to see you more 🙂
