Sometimes we feel we are doing the exact same thing every single day, like nothing is going to change and we are wasting our life.
And to be quite frank, this has a lot of truth to it.
Most people are on autopilot, doing the exact same thing for up to 40 years.
But because society has planted in our brains that we need to work hard and provide for our family, we think we are doing the right thing.
Sure we need to provide for our families and work hard, but there’s a fine line between working to live and living to work.
In this article I’m going to show you how to stop wasting your life and to start doing more productive and fun things instead.
Are You Really Wasting Your Life?
Think about this and let it ponder.
Are you really wasting your life by going to work everyday?
What else would you do with your time if you didn’t have that job?
Watching Netflix, sitting at home all day, scrolling social media, wondering what to do all day?
Then working everyday might be your purpose, it what makes you feel like you’re doing something meaningful.
Take that job away and you are dealing with another problem, which is finding something to do so you don’t feel bored all the time.
However on the other hand, if deep down you know you have great things to accomplish such as a new business or new idea you want to pursue, then it’s possible that your job is wasting your life.
This is true when you are destined for great things, working 50 hours a week can get in the way of achieving that.
If you quit your job because you think it’s a waste of time, just know that you’re opening another can of worms and I hope you have some tricks up your sleeve.
You’re On Autopilot
You’re doing the same thing everyday, over and over again.
This may make you feel like a robot just going through the same motions every single day.
And it’s a scary thing to experience once you notice what is happening, and even scarier when you realize you’re going to do this for the rest of your life.
I know exactly how you feel and not just me but billions all over the world.
Over 70% of people hate their job, and one good reason is that they feel like they are wasting their life.
We Only Get One Life
As far as we know according to science, we only get one life. That is one chance to live how WE want.
That is not many chances at all.
First we say we’re going to work this job we hate for 5 years, then we are still in the same job 40 years later.
It is a trap and one you need to be aware of (or get out before it’s too late).
This is why you feel like you’re wasting your life, because you aren’t enjoying it.
You need to love everyday, love the people around you, love waking up and being happy getting out of bed.
That is what you need to strive for. Feeling like you’re wasting your life turns into depression and then suicide.
Be Careful, You Could Be Working All Your Life For Nothing
If you aren’t careful enough, you could be one of those people that work all their life and get nothing out of it, which is more common than you think.
People work HARD their entire life, they put in all the hours, make all the money, but then they retire and they don’t have the energy to do all the fun things they wanted to do.

Most people wait until they retire until they start “living” but it’s just not as fun as being young and free.
Young and free is simply the best and the sooner you achieve that the better your life will be, I can almost guarantee it.
I know because I’ve been in the trap, I was in the trap at such a young age (I was working 40-50 hours at 16 years old), but I got out because I knew what could happen if I didn’t.
I do not recommend you retire before you start living, because that is literally wasting your life and I know you don’t want that.
You Need to Make It Right
You need to make your life right in order to have a sense of purpose and happiness.
There’s no two ways about it. Making small changes over a period of time is the key to changing your life.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results – Albert Einstein
What does this mean?
You’re going to continue wasting your life if you don’t change anything.
Of course everyone is different and everyone’s situation is tough, but at the end of the day, only you can make your life how you want it to be.
You can continue to make excuses and not do anything about it or make changes so your life doesn’t feel so wasteful anymore.
Everyday’s a New Beginning
The good thing is we get a new day every 24 hours.
When you think about it, it is like a new beginning to start anew and create a better version of yourself.
Treat everyday as a new day to do better than you did the previous day.
- Instead of working 80 hours a week, cut it down to 60 to have more time to have fun
- Instead of wasting your spare time scrolling social media, do something productive. Production boosts happiness and morale
- If you don’t like your job, find a better one
You can make drastic changes or you can make small changes, it doesn’t matter so long as you do something new and make it a habit to change up your routine often.
Me: I like to make big changes, but I can only do that as a result of making small changes throughout the years.
Now big changes aren’t as uncomfortable for me anymore.
Not long ago I drove 8 hours to get my US Visa at 2.am, then I drove 8 hours back, almost no rest.
Literally 2 days later I moved out of my house and lived with a friend until it was time to make the big move to the US.
I was there for only 2 weeks until I flew all the way from New Zealand where I now live with my girlfriend.
Those flights were insane.
12 hours from NZ to San Francisco then another 5 hours to Baltimore. It was 27 hours total travelling when you include layovers…by myself…someone that’s never left the country in my life.
The point here?
I made huge changes in my life and took action to get where I am today.
If I didn’t do anything, I would still be doing the same thing living my life how I always did, and getting bored all the time and losing direction and purpose.
You see, you have to make changes to feel a new sense of direction in life. You can’t continue doing the same thing forever.
Where Were You 1 Year Ago?
A lot can happen in one year.
If you think back on your life exactly one year from now, was it similar or exactly the same?
If it’s exactly the same, then you are stuck in a trap that you need to get out of right now.
One year ago I was still in NZ, had just moved in with an Indian guy because he was looking for a roommate and I was talking to my girlfriend on Skype every night.
By the way, she’s American and I meet her online, now I’m in America and living with her.
This would be impossible if I didn’t take action and huge moves in my life.
My Point, Exactly?
“Come on Brandon, just get to the point already”.
I know, I have said a lot but there’s a method to the madness and I’ve preached exactly what you need to know throughout this article.
If you feel your job is wasting your life, the only thing to do is make changes.
There is no other way.
Taking action = changes. Changes = having a purpose and direction.
Make changes often and you will never feel that your job is wasting your life.
You will have so much going on that you won’t have time to stop and think “damn, I’m bored of my life and job”.
Well I hope you enjoyed this article.
