Feeling comfortable is the greatest feeling in the world.
I love being comfortable, it makes feel safe, it gives me protection and allows me to predict the future.
But the enemy of success is comfort.
I’ve learnt throughout my 27 years on this earth that it’s impossible to become successful without a little discomfort (or most of the time, a lot).
You try to combine success with comfort and you’re not going to get very far in life.
In fact, stepping out of your comfort zone is going to be inevitable for your success.
In this article I’m going to break down why you need to stop chasing comfort and instead get comfortable with being uncomfortable, because that’s truly when remarkable things happen.
Comfort VS Discomfort
It’s easy being comfortable because you are safe in this little barrier.
Being comfortable means you feel safe, you know what to expect.
You can almost predict the future and this is why you like it, because it makes life easy.
And I mean, who doesn’t want life to be easy?
Being uncomfortable is the complete opposite. You don’t know what to expect and you don’t like doing it.
In fact, you hate it and that’s why you will do everything in your power to avoid a little discomfort.
You are uncomfortable when you are doing something new or out of your usual routine, and your mind absolutely hates it.
You will probably feel a little stressed and that’s how you know you’re out of your comfort zone.
However, this is good because it increases mental toughness and makes stepping out of your comfort zone easier in the future.
You’re able to handle much tougher situations in the future, and situations that usually stress you out now won’t even budge you.
Life will actually become a lot easier.
Your life will completely change if you step out of your comfort zone often, I can guarantee that.
Being uncomfortable = success
Why do you think only a small amount of people succeed?
Because you have to become UNcomfortable. I can’t stress that enough.
I will give you some examples.
You can’t sit on your couch all day watching TV and expect to be the next billionaire. It takes work, lots of work and you have to be consistent.
And this doesn’t just apply to money, it applies to everything in life.
I workout 4-5x a week and have done for the last 2 years.
But before that, I was on and off in the gym on and have done so since 2011. Just having fun with it, not really taking it too seriously.
It wasn’t until the last 2 years that I went all out and stopped making excuses.

And here’s me today (226 pounds)
Would I achieve this by staying in my comfort zone? Of course not.
I stepped out of my comfort zone daily, took action and put in the work, and that’s what you have to do if you want to make your dreams a reality.
I feel like a completely different person now and certainly don’t look like the same one.
Because I increased mental toughness, got comfortable with being uncomfortable and as a result you change your entire perception on life.
I’m telling you, getting uncomfortable is the key to life, opening up opportunities and fully experiencing what life has to offer.
I have said that over and over again because I stand by it 1010%.
The comfort zone is a psychological state in which one feels familiar, safe, at ease, and secure.
If you always do what is easy and choose the path of least resistance, you never step outside your comfort zone. Great things don’t come from comfort zones.

Another example is this blog you’re reading.
My dream was to make money online so I don’t have to work a normal job.
Well my friend, I achieved that as well.
I put in the work by writing content frequently and getting it ranked in the search engines to make money.
I got out of my comfort zone by writing content as much as I could, even when I didn’t feel like it.
It’s uncomfortable because I would rather be watching Netflix or laying on the couch scrolling through social media.
I didn’t want to be putting my brain through stress, making it do something I don’t want to do.
But you have to if you want to achieve great things.
How often should you get uncomfortable?
Change doesn’t happen over night and it’s not going to happen by stepping out of your comfort zone one time.
Of course it’s going to feel like the greatest feeling in the world, willingly doing something you didn’t even want to do.
That’s going to increase your mental toughness and make you a stronger person.
You do not have to get out of your comfort zone every day…unless your dream requires that much work, of course.
At the start I recommend you say yes to things that pop up in your life, especially new opportunities.
How can you apply this to every day life? It’s actually really simple.
- If someone asks you to go clubbing but you would rather stay at home talking to people on Snapchat, say yes to clubbing instead. You don’t want to do it because it’s uncomfortable and it’s not something you are use to.
- Your employer offers you a new position but you’re scared of taking it? Take the damn position. You don’t want it because you have never done it and you don’t know what to expect. It’s going to put you in an uncomfortable state but that’s a good thing.
- Your boyfriend/girlfriend wants you to go with them somewhere but you think it’s going to be boring for you. Well go anyway, you’ll love yourself for going out and doing something fun instead of staying home and feeling sorry for yourself.

How do I know all of this?
Because I was that guy.
I was the guy that said no to doing new things.
I was the guy that never wanted to hang with friends.
I never wanted to pursue new opportunities because I was scared of failing.
I’ve been there all before and speak from experience.
I know what it takes to succeed.
I can’t stress enough how great it is to do new things and take opportunities, because they open up new doors for you, doors that will literally change your life.
Get comfortable with being uncomfortable
One thing you should always tell yourself is “get comfortable with being uncomfortable”.
This means get use to getting out of your comfort zone, embrace it, love the journey and love all the new doors opening up in your life.
Because success comes when you’re doing something you don’t usually do.
And the only way to do that is by, you guessed it, getting out of your comfort zone.
Do this often, as many times as you can is best.
Whenever you don’t feel like doing something, do it anyway.
This is going to make getting out of your comfort zone even easier in the future, and you’ll be able to do things you never thought imaginable.
